CS: Which artists have influenced you because of their music?
FJ: New Edition, Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown, Beastie Boys and other urban music greats.
CS: What’s your latest CD purchase?
FJ: Justin Timberlake’s recent title album and Ciara’s. I like to listen to all types of music.
CS: What is your genre then?
FJ: R& B [Rhythm and Blues]
CS; But many think it’s POP.
FJ: Yes. In a way it is.
CS: Among the Latin artist out there, who do you admire, or listen to often?
FJ: Luis Miguel, Christian Castro, Shakira, Alejandro Fernandez, Sanz and Mana among others.
CS: What about family?
FJ: I have 2 wonderful children, Frankie J III [5] and Emily Sade [1.5],
my sweet wife, Grace. I also have an older brother and an older sister. My parents both live in California close to me. So, that’s nice.
CS: Do they travel with you?
FJ: Sometimes they do, but not always.
CS: I noticed the star tattoos on your hand. What do they mean?
FJ: I did it for my children, to remind me that they will always be part of me, even if far away from me. On the right hand, I have my son’s initials, and on the left, my little girl’s.
CS: That’s really sweet, what a great idea!
FJ: Again, I like to be different, creative.
CS: I particularly enjoyed your latest single release video on MTV ‘That Girl’, TRL voted it one of the best this fall. Who is she anyway? What an incredible video…she’s probably one of the most beautiful girls in the world!!
[She’s the one holding the camera on the Hispanos USA cover this month]
FJ: Her name is DANELA, from the Dominican Republic, she worked on ESCANDALO TV as a host, has been a model for quite some time and is appearing in the November ‘06 issue of Maxim.
CS: No. You didn’t just plug my favorite magazine in the whole wide world?
FJ: Yeahhh… I did it because she’s a great girl and a good friend. That’s it.
CS: What about sports?
FJ: I watched the World Cup with a passion, sad to see Mexico fail but I believe we will come back stronger next time around.
CS: What about acting? Is that part of the dream?
FJ: Yes, I would love to appear in a movie like Oceans 11 or 12, at least have a role like Brad Pitt’s.
CS: How about Oceans 13? I hear they are in the production stages.
FJ: You never know about these things… One day you are here, then you are there…but I would definitely like to take some acting lessons, you know! It is really something I would not mind doing.
CS: All Right. It seems to me like you got it together and as smooth and real as you would want it to be, correct?
FJ: Yes, however, I must thank my fans. I’d be nothing without them and their support. It means a lot to me.
CS: By the way… I will be giving away copies of your new release ‘Priceless’ at a Salsa Nights event I host in Charlotte NC, is that cool or what?
FJ: Great. By all means, let me know if anything I can do to help you out with some of your events. I know you got your name on a lot of projects out there, and I also want you to succeed.
CS: Thanks bro…just like the lyrics on one of your songs, you reminded me of Coke-you’re the real thing. Thanks for taking the time to give us a new angle on the life of another great success story. You’ve already inspired many out there, and I am sure you will inspire many more. May God continue to bless you and those around you.
FJ: You too. The same, thanks for sharing my world via your publishing ventures.
See you soon.
CS: Ok. Bye. Until next time. Should we send your cell phone # to all the fans out there?
FJ: No. Are you kidding? My tour manager would kill me. Adios!

The Interview:: CS: Carlos Solis
FJ: Frankie J
CS: Hola Frankie?
FJ: Carlos? Como estas?
CS: Excellent !
FJ: Yo Tambien.
CS: Do you prefer English or Spanish to conduct this interview.
FJ: Your call, a mi me da igual. Me siento bien en los dos ambientes.
CS: Bueno, creo que en Ingles esta bien, dominas muy bien los dos entonces.
FJ: Si, con mi familia y amigos el espanol, en ingles pues ha sido necesario interactuar con la mayoria no?
CS: Great, so here we go, I am in Charlotte NC, how’s the weather and the music scene in L.A. today?
FJ: Great, my younger sister lives in NC and I’m happy working, touring, living…weather is awesome here.
CS: So, tell me, deep inside, who is Frankie J:
FJ: A humble and creative artist who’s got a heart and soul for this business-the music industry.
CS: How did you become such a famous artist:
FJ: I just do what I do best, sing. But I don’t think I am famous.
CS: What does the J mean?
FJ: It comes from my birth name Francisco Javier.
CS: So, then, how did it all get started for you?
FJ: I’ve been singing since I was a little kid, about 5 or 6, began writing by 11,
signed to an independent record deal at 15, then joined Kumbia Kings, Selena's brother A.B. Quintanilla’s band as the lead singer for his group which prompted me to move to Texas then leaving the group in 2003 to pursue a solo career.
CS: That’s when I met you, at the last few appearances with Kumbia Kings, during a concert in DC. I asked you for the time while walking the halls at the host hotel.
FJ: That’s right! We met in the lobby of the Watergate/Swiss Hotel while you were conducting interviews for the Hispanic Heritage Awards.
CS: Famous or not, you have an amazing voice. Millions of girls could not be wrong, could they? What drives you to succeed?
FJ: My upbringing, knowing that I can always improve, learn and grow.
And keeping it real and simple I guess.
CS: Did you ever take voice lessons?
FJ: No, never did.
CS: What instruments do you play if any?
FJ: The Piano

CS: What are you most proud of this year?
FJ: The launching of my Spanish language CD ‘Un Nuevo Dia’ back in June and in October 17 the release of ‘Priceless,’ my third English language album so far.
CS: Where was it recorded?
FJ: In Houston, TX
CS: You mention ‘breakfast in Brasil’ in one of your songs.
FJ: You know, I can proudly say I’ve been around the globe and seen so many things…
CS: On your travels around the world, which country have you enjoyed the most?
FJ: I enjoyed Great Britain, people in London are really down to earth, humble and very social. Unlike many seem to think, the nightlife is unreal. Everybody goes out to have fun. I was received by them with the warmest welcome in all of Europe. So, they get my vote.
CS: Por lo visto vas hacia la cima, como dice THALIA, arrazando!
FJ: Definitivamente, asi lo seguiremos haciendo, trabajando duro, progresando!
CS: What about diversifying? Clothes line, etc.
FJ: I thought of a perfume, a ladies perfume.
CS: What would you call it?
FJ: “That Girl”
CS: Sounds interesting…
FJ: But more importantly, it would smell really GREAT!! Worldly, exotic and awesome!
PEPSI or COKE? PEPSI
Eat out or Dine-in? DINE IN
Black or Brown? BROWN
Mountains or the Beach? The Beach
The Country or the City? The Country
East or West? West
Rap, Hip Hop or R& B? All of the above.
